RESULT Southport 1 Stockport County 0

Southport FC booked their place in the first round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Blue Square Premier rivals Stockport County.

The only goal of the game came inside the first two minutes as Andy Owens fired the ball home from the edge of the area.

Stockport put Sandgrounders under pressure in the second-half but Liam Watson’s men held on for a place in the next round.

After taking the lead early on Southport had chances to score again in the first-half. Karl Ledsham and Steven Akrigg went close with headers before a ball from Tony Gray was cut out by Mark Lynch.

Stockport were a bigger threat later in the half and Nick Chadwick had a header from close range then Carl Piergianni also wasted a great chance.

Into the second half and Gray wet close when his header was cleared off the line by defender Piergianni. Daniel O’Donnell then blocked the ball from Sandgrounders Adam Carden.

Stockport increased the pressure late on and they almost equalised when Mark Lynch shot wide and then keeper Tony McMillan made a good save from John Miles.

Southport have been drawn at home against League Two Barnet in the next round.

Southport: McMillan, Smith, Akrigg, Davis, Owens, Whalley (Brown 83), Moogan, Ledsham, Aley, Gray (Lever 88), Walker (Carden 70).
    Subs not used: Nemes, Ordish.

Stockport County: Ormson, Lynch, O’Donnell, Piergianni, Holden, Miles, McCann, Routledge, Whitehead (Darkwah 56), Paton, Chadwick.
Subs not used: Bounab, German, Nolan, Sheridan, Halls, Smith.

    Attendance: 1,358

Once again the Mighty Port go marching on.

In the week that Chairman Charlie received his M.B.E. he rounded it off another fantastic victory.

    In Charlie we trust.

Isn't it a shame what happens to these poor people when their support is withdrawn?

I feel really sorry for dave he is obviously becoming worse.

Its ok. OTS will be trawling around the pubs

OTS; Do you know of the website SGB/QLocal?

    (Half cut)Punter; No.

OTS; I'll buy you a drink if...(explains "plight")

(Half cut)Punter; (Hmmm free drink) Ok.

And BAM, next day, Terry Nomark backs OTS.

So people, a large percentage of these "backers" are no such thing.

Let's hope for a good draw in the next round and make some money at the same time. Unfortunately we the paying fans will never get to know how much the club makes and what they spend it on. It's a case of pay up and shut up I’m afraid.

Once again the Mighty Port go marching on
Marching on in the blue square premier which is not a great achievement at all, and does not deserve a MBE. There are many unsung heroes in Southport who deserve medals more than this man does. I bet when he got home he slumped in the chair and said "Mavis we’ve made it luv"

    QUIZ QUESTION

A regular poster on these threads, but who is he?

    Here are a few clues;
The Yellows have had a lucky run of late.
Another lucky win but it won't last.
Another lucky win against a Sunday league side.
Another lucky win but how long will it last?
Another lucky win in a tin pot league and an half empty ground.
A lucky winner for the Port.
A lucky own goal wins it for southport

I seem to remember everyone complaining about the Sheffield Wed game of where did the money go? Another good draw and bankroll for SFC owners? Don't get me wrong, anyone who owns a club must have deep pockets, be mad, or both. Some foreign nationals excluded

Fingers crossed for a good draw

Like fossilfred said in the Emma Downie backing Ots thread 'There are better games on Meols Park on a Sunday morning and they are free to watch'.

With the prices Southport FC are charging for a half baked team that are going NOWHERE, it's a wonder OTS still wants to get into Haig Ave.
