RESULT Southport 2 Bath City 1

Two late goals from Tony Gray gave Sandgrounders all three points as they came from behind to beat bottom of the table Bath City.

Sandgrounders are up to third in the table after this result as Gray scored the winning goal for Liam Watson’s side in the 89th minute.

The match was a disappointing one for the 1021 crowd to watch but Sandgrounders finished the game strongly meaning the home fans left celebrating three points. Southport had more possession in the first-half but they were disappointing up front.

Bath had more chances as Alex Russel crossed the ball in to the box and Jamie Cook had a shot but keeper Tony McMillan made a save. Then McMillan saved again when Marley Watkins went close with another shot.

Sandgrounders came out for the second-half looking more determined to score. Russell Benjamin nearly put Sandgrounders in front but his shot as deflected wide.

Godfrey Poku then had a shot wide and Simon Grand missed with a free header from Shaun Whalley free-kick.

Bath took the lead on 76 minutes when Lewis Hogg played the ball in to the box and Shaun Canham headed the ballhome.

Southport pushed forward looking for an equaliser and they scored as Gray fired the ball home from the edge of the area from Shaun Whalley’s corner.

Gray scored the winner in the last minute from close range after the Bath defence hadn’t cleared Andy Owens throw in.

If they struggled against bottom of the table Bath it doesn’t give them much hope of finishing in the top three so enjoy the moment as results are sure to change in the New Year.

Hmm...rather mention that Bath remain bottom wouldn't it have been more appropriate to say that Southport have risen to 3rd to put a more positive slant on the news item? It shows that we can grind out a result when playing poorly against a side that beat us at Haig Av last season. Great resilience, perseverance, togetherness and tenacity earned these 3 points. In the past we would never have come back to win games like these. As for negative posters, this is your home town team - get behind them. I dont care that OTS has been banned, i dont care for immature, dull, childish posts that we see every week, its boring and to be honest, makes you appear a bit of a pathetic character.

When Southport scored their 90th minute winner today I was elated but the first thing I thought about was dear pathetic Dave Ball having to amend his 'ready to send' post on here all about how Southport couldn't beat the bottom side Bath blah-blah-blah. Safe to say that this last minute winner will have ruined his day, his weekend and Southport's current rise up the table is making his life a misery.

I'm surprised he posted at all, I had visions of a lap-top being thrown through a window on hearing or seeing the news of this latest victory. So sad to spend that much energy on posting anything against the club on here.

Oh and another anti SFC thread about some no-mark saying they disagree to the current ban on the vile Rodwell has made it's way on to this ever increasing joke of a web-site.

  17. grim_reaper says:19/11/2011 10:13 PM
Can we have a thread on here for people who agree to the OTS Ban....wouldn't that be a great example of balanced unbiased journalism and be representative of all site users and residents of this town?

  18. Rigsby says:20/11/2011 10:17 AM
A below par performance by most of the players, maybe a case of "Bath are bottom of the table, we only have to turn up".

But when we went behind, the players stepped it up a gear and only for some Bath players throwing themselves in front of the ball in a superb display of defending, we could have had 3 or 4.

After the drama of last season and the 11th hour reprieve, the main objective of this season was survival, we currently have 38 Pt's from 20 games and sit 3rd. Last season we finished with 46 points from 46 games, so should have 46 Pt's by the halfway stage.

Even Dave Ball must be impressed with the improvement this season, as for being lucky, all teams will have a little bit of luck during a season, but to be lucky for 20 game in a row?

Looking forward to next weeks away day at Stockport County, and hopefully breaking the club record of consecutive away wins (8), should be a good away following of the Southport faithful.

Daveball what a complete tosser. so so predictable! must be killing you that southport who are on shoestring budget are currently sitting 3rd in the league around teams who have much more resources than them. Get a grip and give some credit where credit is due.
