Southport FC are top of the table by 9 points after thrashing rivals Fleetwood Town 5-0 at Haig Avenue in the Boxing Day match. Earl Davis and Michael Powell were on the scoresheet twice for Sandgrounders and Ciaran Kilheeney scored another.

Fleetwood came close when Gareth Seddon had a few chances but he couldn’t find the goal. Ciaran Kilheeney scored for Sandgrounders just before half time with a low shot from inside the box.

Powell scored his first goal just after half time when he headed the ball in from Mcginn’s corner as Sandgrounders played some great football.

Powell made it 4-0 on 74 minutes after good play from Ashley Winn and then Davis scored again with a header late on the match.

See if he's quick at getting his hands in his pocket after Christmas when we need new players. They caught Fleetwood on a bad day and i'm sure the rolls will be reversed on New Years day. They also have to face Stalybridge before then so lets not count our chickens before they hatch.

    Dave they're not you chickens.
Rafa is slaughtering yours every week.

    Well done Port.
Lets hope all our opponents keep having 'off' days.

Your all getting carried away so lets not forget Southport is a Sunday pub league who did ok today against a Fleetwood Town whose players had obviously been out on the plonk over the past few days.

Let's hope that daveball is right about Fleetwood and that all Southport's opponents between now and the end of the season go out on the plonk the night before. That will do very nicely thank you.

All the hard work of winning this league to be promoted into the conference. Only to find themselves demoted once again, because they can't afford to pay their players full time.

Would this be the same Chairman who took us DOWN from the Blue Square Prem in the first place?

Great result - well done! Let's hope they don't get complacent though; every single match matters.
