RESULT Southport 2 Lincoln City 2

John-Paul Kissock and Shaun Whalley were on the scoresheet for Southport FC as they started the Blue Square Premier with a home draw against Lincoln City,

Lincoln were relegated at the end of last season from Division Two and had a number of new players in their team. Sandgrounders also fielded several new signings after joining the club in the summer.

Sandgrounders started the match well and they went close early on when Andy Owens had a header saved by keeper Joe Anyon.

Lincoln came more in to the game and they took the lead when Ali Fuseini played a cross in to the box and Sam Smith headed the ball home.

Southport battled back well and after Kevin Lee had a shot saved they equalised when Kissock fired a stunning free-kick in to the top corner from 30 yards out.

Lincoln took the lead again early in the second half as Simon Russell crossed from the right and Kyle Perry was there to head in at the back post.

Sandgrounders hit back straight away when Kissock won the ball on the edge of the area and played a great ball to Shaun Whalley, who slotted the ball home from close range.

Entertaining match with a lot of quality mainly from Lincoln but Kissock and Whalley scored fantastic goals today and they are real diamonds for us.
Question mark against some of the new signings but Grand looks good and Akrigg considering the change in leagues he's made. Gray is not the answer at centre foreward, I would like to see him on the right wing with Whalley on the left. We need a centre forword who is big and strong, there must be one in the whole of northwest football, do we have any scouts?
Looking forward to an interesting season, I would certainly recommend that the armchair critics get down there and support the club, you will see 100% effort and quite a lot of skill.
There is nothing like being at a live match and Conference Premier is good value, so all you tight arses get down there, you cant take it with you.

You have to laugh at Southport FC's Tip of the day: Great offer Southport to win 2-0 11/1.

    What planet are they on?

Yes, just like the local side that was playing football yesterday afternoon, an amateurish report for an amateurish side.
