Racist graffiti has been painted onto disused porta cabins on Crowland Street.
A local resident commented to Qlocal...

I am concerned about the growing amount of racist graffiti that is appearing around the old gas works at High Park. There are offensive statements as well as graffiti promoting the racist website 'Red ice' daubed on walls and old porta cabins. I have seen this mentioned a number of months ago and expected to see it removed by the council. But to the contrary, the graffiti seems to be expanding.

I wish people would get to grips with what is and isn't racism. Calling it such and stirring up anger is as bad as the initial crime in my view. Those comments are not racist, they are directed at muslims who are not a race of people. It may not be the best way to inform folk and graffiti isn't acceptable, but I can't say that the comments are offensive because they are not untrue, ie black and proud is a popular slogan and there are indeed many calls to violence in the quran (I haven't counted so don't know the exact number.)If any offence should be taken it is that the perpetrator hasn't spelt allowed properly. Let's get things in perspective, I'm sure it'll turn out to be those "mindless" vandals again.

The graffiti is not racist - it is giving information. However graffiti anywhere is wrong. No, I also do not know of the website, it would appear that some people felt impelled to read it though - wonder why that was?

I would be more concerned that the graffiti reflects the feelings of a separate group of people not related to the normal vandals - they are obviously a protest group, but the graffiti does not appear to have increased in vocal content nor has it become more widespread, indicating that the protestors have moved on.

Please don’t use passages or quotes from the bible or Quran. Fairy tales are hardly very accurate sources of information.

Did the resident think to mention it to the council?
Does the resident think the council will remove graffiti from private property?
Who owns this eyesore? Those portacabins have been in a state of disrepair for years.
