SFC Andy Owens is player of the month

Southport FC defender Andy Owens has been named as the Blue Square Premier player of the month for October.

Owens scored twice for Sandgrounders in October including the winning goal against Stockport in the FA Cup on Saturday.



Left back Owens joined Sandgrounders in the summer from Accrington Stanley and has put in some impressive performances this season.

Southport boss Liam Watson was beaten to the manager of the month award by Andy Morrell from Wrexham.

Southport’s Andy Owens has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘player of the month’ for October. The left back has been in great form for Liam Watson’s side who have gone unbeaten during the period. Owens has contributed with two important goals, both decisive in 1-0 victories at home to Stockport County in the FA Cup and at home to Cambridge United in the league. The Sandgrounders are up to seventh in the table, with Owens only missing the 1-1 draw at Tamworth during the period. Manager Watson narrowly missing out on the managerial equivalent which would have given Southport an October double.
