Avid golfers can bag themselves a life time gym membership if they can avoid a bunker or bogie and ace a hole in one Ryder Cup At Southport Ainsdale Golf Club 1933during the Ryder Cup.

There may have only ever been six professionals to hit the ultimate shot at the biennial European, American showdown, with the most recent in 2006, but Sefton Council is challenging local golfers to get inspired and try their luck from September 30 - October 2.

Unlike Darren Clarke and co, entrants don’t have to travel over to the Hazeltine National Golf Club in the USA to take part, but instead score a hole in one at one of the fantastic golf course in Sefton, including:

Bootle Golf Course, Southport Municipal Golf Links, West Lancs Golf Club, Southport and Ainsdale, Formby Golf Course, Hillside Golf Course, Royal Birkdale, Hesketh Golf Course, Southport Old Links.

The Ryder Cup has been held in Sefton four times during its history, including the second time it was competed in the UK in 1933 at Southport and Ainsdale GC. Royle Birkdale also held the competition twice in the 1960s.
