Special film talent from Sefton has been recognised at a glittering awards ceremony in Liverpool.

Sefton Council has been working in partnership with Sefton CCG’s, Sefton Carers Centre, Autism Initiatives, The Atkinson, Mersey Care and People First to establish and develop three ‘hubs’ for people with Aspergers living in Sefton.

The films, submitted to the high-profile judges, covered the issues of mental health, asperger’s and autism. They were created by members of the Sefton Autism Hub who had been learning about making short films from script to screen.

The members have since gone on to develop their own media group based at The Atkinson which is developing their skills and striving to become a social enterprise in the future.

Chris Purcell from Sefton Creative Hubs won the Liverpool Echo Best Achievement Award, which was presented by Echo Journalist, Jade Wright, Hollyoaks actress Jacqueline Boatswain, and Karl Collins star of The Bill, Doctor Who, Casualty, Holby City.

The overall winning short film, Honest Dystopia was created by David Blakemore, also from Sefton Creative Hubs. Presenting the award was acclaimed Liverpool actress Alison Steadman and Film Producer Nik Powell.

Alison Steadman, said: “I’m truly amazed by the work these young adults have produced. They should all be very proud.”

Event organiser, Maureen Sinclair, said: “Once again, the event has gone beyond my expectations. We have been able to showcase the award-winning work of young adult film-makers from Merseyside – thanks to the support from many people and partners, including MerseyCare, PH Holt, Big Lottery, and the Sefton Autism Hub.”
