Rainbow flags will be flying at both Bootle and Southport Town Halls on Thursday (May 17) to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
Notices will be displayed at the Town Halls explaining why the flag is being flown for the day.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates the anniversary of when the World Health Organisation finally removed homosexuality from its official list of mental disorders in 1990.
Flags will fly at both Southport and Bootle Town Hall until Friday May 18.
Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Dave Robinson, said: “It is incredibly important to show our continued support to IDAHOBIT and show that Sefton Council supports the LGBT community.
“The Rainbow Flag represents the diversity of the community, many of whom are residents across our beautiful borough.
“I am proud that the Rainbow flag will fly at our town halls on May 17.”
Sue Logie, one of Sefton Council’s Youth Workers, said: “IDADHOBIT marks not only the historic moment the World Health Organisation declassified Homosexuality as a mental illness, but the fact that the world was attempting to be more inclusive and accepting.
“However this is not always the case and even still in 2018 we are still a marginalised group.
“As a community we stand shoulder to shoulder with each other and our straight allies to show that we are still continuing to support and fight against hate”

The do-gooders won't be happy until the Police stop fighting crime altogether. As long as they look like this though everything's fine..

These flags are ridiculous. "We are still a marginalised group" says the youth worker - The notion that there is one LGBTQ+++ group is obviously nonsense. The ever-expanding categories within this silly alphabet soup make the "grouping" more meaningless. Gay men have more in common with straight men than with the cosmetic mutilation and hormone medicated scenario of the trannies, for example.

The whole event acts adversely to its intention. While the authorities give more favouritism to one minor group - other people view it as discrimination against them. This does not do the Police Force any favours since anyone coming to their attention may well believe that unless they are in the LGBT group they will be treated less fairly.
