Sefton Council is holding a road users event offering support and advice for those over the age of 60.
There is currently more traffic on the roads than ever before with over 35 million registered vehicles in the UK compared with only 12 million in the 1970s. The increase in congestion, plus deteriorating eyesight, longer reaction times and even the use of prescribed medication are affecting many over 60s safety as road users, resulting in the number of road traffic accidents involving this age group rising.
The Sefton Senior Road User’s Event, led by the Council’s Highway Safety Team, aims to ensure that road users get the advice and support they need to keep themselves and others safe on the borough’s roads.
The event takes place on Wednesday, March 1 from 10am-2pm at Maghull Town Hall with free tea, coffee and lunch provided.
Places are limited so to book a place for you or a family member, call 0151 934 4259 or email road.safety@sefton.gov.uk

When this article claims that the number of traffic accidents involving the over 60's is rising I assume that is based upon proven statistical evidence and not some puerile attempt to whip up an argument. If we assume that it is true then are we supposed to draw the implication that accidents involving the UNDER 60's is falling, because if it isn't then why are older drivers being singled out?

Totally agree, but that wouldn't make a story.

You know what is said about statistics, yes there is a rise in the numbers of over 60s involved in traffic accidents, sadly the rise is very much in pedestrians and mainly the fault of pedestrians, very little change in the numbers of over 60s drivers involved in traffic accidents, particularly as the numbers of over 60s drivers has increased considerably.

Anything that may help to prevent accidents is well worthwhile.
