The BID (Business Improvement District) are trying to re-posses sensory equipment for children at 66-76 Tulketh Street!
Please can any body help?!
We are launching a kickstart project as a last ditch effort. This will be starting this evening.
They want a small fortune compared to last year and myself and many many other business didn't vote for them. And we are only a tiny family run business for non profit who were recently burgled.
They provide some minor things which the council used to provide.
Now I and many others have to pay a vast amount on top of the £10,000 council tax I already pay to have those same things. Plus they are now upping the council tax as well.
The landlords are also upping the rent constantly as well as the utility companies that supply commercial premises.
All on the grounds that my business premises is over a certain square footage!
We do not get invited to any of the BID events and receive no benefit. It's the same with many business such as pubs and barbers down to health stores. They receive no invites but are drained of cash flow.
We pay £15,000 a year to Sefton council and in return put up with road works and pot holes on our road. The police charged us £270 to board up our doorway when we were burgled and our cash stolen. £270 for 3 minutes work. BT want to charge us for broadband we don't have and the boiler constantly breaking which we have to pay for ourselves.
So far we have given £80,000 to these corporate people all to try and provide a sensory centre for children with learning disabilities.
We are now on the very edge of bankruptcy as grants we have applied for will take months to reach us and with everything happening at once I don't think we will survive.
Please help us if you can in any way.

Can't they move somewhere a little cheaper ?? There are often units to rent in Shakespeare street that cost £7k a year in rent. Or i am sure there are a few places further out that are even cheaper !
Alternatively they would be better off partnering up with someone - such as Farmer Teds, Pleasureland etc who could provide space.

This story doesn't make a lot of sense.
1. "Now I and many others have to pay a vast amount on top of the £10,000 council tax I already pay ... "
"We pay £15,000 a year to Sefton council ..."
Is it £10,000 or is it £15,000? Is it Council Tax or is it Non-Domestic Rates?
2. "And we are only a tiny family run business for non profit ..."
If not-for-profit, is Sensory Touch a registered charity? If it is a registered charity then it automatically gets an 80% reduction on their Non-Domestic Rates.
3. "The BID (Business Improvement District) are trying to re-posses sensory equipment ... They want a small fortune compared to last year and myself and many many other business didn't vote for them."
Why is any BID levy payable at all? The BID levy is payable by "all businesses in the BID zone with a rateable value of over £2000 classified under the SIC codes covering retail, accommodation, hospitality, leisure and attractions".
If it's a charitable sensory centre for children with learning disabilities then surely it doesn't fall within those SIC codes.

Anybody would think that Tony Dawson idiot would get involved and try to help them out. That is my opinion anyway.

I can help - with advice - run your business properly.
Get the grants in place before you operate, negotiate better deals with the Utilities, set it up in cheaper more affordable premises, do your market research, arrange an overdraft contingency with your bank, have insurance to cover burglaries and other losses.
I get heartily cheesed off with people cocking it up and then blaming everyone but themselves whilst wailing about the poor children.
If a business is in trouble it's nobodies fault but those running it.

Why don't you contact them and offer your experience as a councillor given you seem to know a lot about it....use your knowledge and position to do good given you work for the town rather than try and make a company who clearly are desperate look stupid and you look smug?
....you could even post a picture of yourself in front of this showing you're fighting for southport. If the business is set to fail then that's one thing but if councillors have knowledge that they could use to help then isn't that pretty awful unless you'd rather a petition or a survey?

Do you really think they look stupid, Username2016? That's not a particularly nice thing to say, but I suppose it's the norm for you.
If you look at the top of the article it says:
"Please can any body help?!"
Rather than being critical of everybody else, is there any help you can offer?
For example, how about suggesting they contact one of their local councillors or their MP?

What? You started your comment with:
"This story doesn't make a lot of sense."
And I was saying you were trying to make them look stupid, I don't think they look stupid. You really are insufferable with your comments councillor.
Aren't you a councillor anyway so they've contacted one and you've responded in your unique way.

I honestly don't think it does make a lot of sense.
If you do, could you explain to me and others what the real problem is here?
As one example, since when have the Police been in the business of operating a (post burglary) boarding up service?

I doubt the police board up themselves but I believe they would have contracted companies to do this for them so could be seen to be part of the police?
Is it not just the case of a struggling business at end of tether with costs and bad luck on burglary?
The first comment you made seems very similar to what another councillor said on the same story on the other site...you could contact them and ask as a local councillor whether you can help as you seem very knowledgeable about the ins and outs here?
I still think you were not being very nice and doubtful of the story posters despite your spinning.

I'm not "doubtful" of the story, I just don't understand most of it.
But as you do, I'll ask again: What is the real problem here?
In particular, what is the problem with the Business Improvement District "trying to re-possess sensory equipment" and wanting "a small fortune compared to last year"?
I did a quick Google search http://www.southportbid.com/faqs/ and was able to make what I regard as a helpful comment, as follows:
"Why is any BID levy payable at all? The BID levy is payable by "all businesses in the BID zone with a rateable value of over £2000 classified under the SIC codes covering retail, accommodation, hospitality, leisure and attractions".

Rather than pathetically criticising other people with your constant snide comments, why don't you get off your backside and offer some constructive advice yourself?

Is it not constructive to advise the councillors that they may want to get involved rather than speculate here? I'm only criticising you and the Councillors who seem to not be able to work together which is at the detriment of the town. Anyway, will leave it there as you know my views

So when, a long time ago, I said:

you are now agreeing with me!
So all the subsequent objectional posting from you were totally unnecessary.

Erm, no, you've either missed the point or twisted it for your purposes.
Have they contacted you yet councillor? If not you could be proactive and offer what you knows which seems to be a lot, not dissimilar to what two other councillors know on the other site.
