Several town centre streets have been pressure washed over the last week.
The Southport BID have organised this with the money presumably coming from the BID levy paid by town centre businesses. Workers are clad in high visibility jackets with the Southport BID logo on.
Sadly the firm doing the work are not even from Southport. This means that taxes raised from the BID levy charged to Southport's businesses are going to out of town businesses.
Why has the Southport BID not used a local pressure washing company?
Several people have commented on social media about the mess left behind.
Yeah and then took us 2 hours to clean the front of my shop because of the mess it made
We have contacted SOUTHPORT BID by Email numerous times and NEVER get a reply back!! not even one to say thank you for you enquiry!!!! I call that VERY UNPROFESSIONAL
These shop keepers r paying u and u r giving money away and isn't this why we all pay our council tax anyway this goes to show the BID is a con.

An appalling organisation ...Take Bath St as an example. Lots of work done down there, planting, pressure washing, rubbish removal, lamppost work, its endless.
Spooky coincidence....Tracy Holgate who was on the Southport BID board has a hotel down there, could it be a case of Cronyism or just a plain and simple coincidence! Who knows....

Why is it not a local company? It's ridiculous that the BID is charging every business 1% of its revenue for very little in return. What is the BID doing to attract customers to our local businesses? Sadly, the BID is essentially Sefton Council and we know that they do NOTHING for Southport businesses!

have to agree, this year the xmas has been abandoned by them ,and our fee seems to have gone on what was council funded items .why no use of local traders.even the lights switch on djing has gone to a Manchester based radio station.we the buissnesses of southport are now being abused and not helped by this organisation! but its here for another couple of years which is why at the next vote the towns buissnesses must post their vote or its here to stay, thats if there are enough left to vote anyway.but hey as it stands theres a few good holidays and new motors being enjoyed off its wage bill!

Complaining about the streets being cleaned. Really? Southport BID is far, far from perfect but at least with this initiative they are trying to clean the place up a bit. More than the Council can be bothered doing.

Maybe they thought Smooth FM would pull in the crowds more than a tinpot local crew.
