Southport's impressive form continued this afternoon with a 2-2 draw at Bradford PA.

Brad Bauress scored a 77th-minute equaliser as Southport extended their unbeaten run to ten games with a point at leaders Bradford (Park Avenue).

The Sandgrounders had taken an early lead through Dean Winnard only to be pegged back before the interval and found themselves trailing but battled back to earn a draw.

Bauress, who scored the equaliser against Tranmere Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup last week, struck from long distance again as the visitors claimed a battling point.

“I asked questions of the players before the game and I said I would learn more about them today,” said manager Liam Watson.

“It was down to the lads to roll up their sleeves on a horrible day in difficult conditions and that’s what they did.

“That really makes me proud and it shows that there is a lot of potential in the squad.”

“A cup run bring finances and that gives us the chance to strengthen the squad.”

Southport went ahead on 13 minutes, Winnard heading in a corner from Bauress.

The lead lasted only five minutes, Conor Branson stooping to head in a Lewis Knight free-kick.

It was a tight game for the most part with little between the teams. Bradford took the lead on 74 minutes, Oli Johnson scoring with an angled finish after latching onto a through ball from Gianluca Havern.

But the visitors were not behind for long, Bauress equalising with a low shot from 30 yards to earn the Sandgrounders a point.
