Thousands of people lined the seafront and packed onto the beach for the visit of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn this evening.

The crowds were treated to long rambling speeches from John Prescott and Steve Rotherham before Jeremy made his entrance to wild applause from the adoring thousands.

Liz Savage the Labour candidate at the last election was also on stage as the predictable anti Tory rants echoed across the beach.

    Some pictures from the event.

The Labour party are the opposition.
What do you expect the opposition's stance to be other than anti Tory?

Was it the same Rent a Mob the Tories were bussing around the country at the General Election. Did you enjoy what he had to say or are you just giving your one eyed view of what went on without knowing who was there. For your information John Prescott stood as the Labour Candidate for Southport in 68 I think it was so he at least has some interest in the seat.

For your education Prescott was soundly thrashed into second place in 1966 by Ian Percival whom I voted for.

Hardly thousands - couple of hundred at the most (the pictures are quite deceptive due to the angle they were taken at), and most were from out of town !

Not once did Corbyn mention Southport in his speech or what the labour party could do for the town. I thought the whole point of him coming here was to convince marginal voters (i.e. non labour voters) to vote for his party ?? Instead it was just a stock speech that could have been done in any town anywhere in the UK !!

To top it off most of it was just Tory bashing which is the same strategy that the labour party used in the recent local election. Liz Savage was criticised for focusing more on her opponents than telling us why we should vote for her !!

So to summarise it was a pointless speech and a wasted effort.

And why has he chosen Prescott to help him ? He is the last man you would want on a campaign !!

I listened to his rhetoric, inspiring; his vision, inviting; his reasoning, invigorating.

It made me feel he was, enticing.

I thought the Messiah had arrived, a second coming, why even his initials, JC, ticked all the right boxes, but I was wrong.

I waited for Jeremy to turn round and face the tide, then set off and towards the sea and eventually walk on water, unfortunately, the tide was out and Jeremy was left floundering. Such a stick in the mud! What a let down!

But on reflection Southport beach was the right and proper place for Jeremy's diatribe; if only the tide had come in!
