Formby is literally buzzing with volunteer opportunities!

An appeal has been launched, via B 4 Biodiversity & the Sefton Year of the Volunteer campaign, to find fresh faced volunteers who would love to get involved with Formby’s very own beehive.

Andrea Ku of B 4 Biodiversity works closely with Formby Library to maintain a special apiary within the Duke Street site as part of the Beehive and Bookworms project.

The bees, living in the wonderful library garden, can be viewed flying to and from their home out to the surrounding gardens, parks and beach landscape.

The hive also allows for a number of workshops and educational aides for the local community, from making sustainable lip balms to sweet treats and much more.

Andrea would now like to enlist volunteers to help keep the project buzzing.

She said: ” I sometimes need volunteers to help out with the Formby library apiary.

“The volunteering will include things like helping directly with the beekeeping and aiding workshops.

“Ideally, I would like volunteers from the ages of 60 and over to come along and help out.

“I also offer volunteers expenses of up to £5 for travel and food.”
