INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING

The complete introduction to the craft for those with no prior experience

Beekeeping has become an increasingly popular pastime and if you have ever thought about becoming a beekeeper then this course will provide you with
the knowledge and skills required to start your journey.

• Topics covered will include:
• Basic biology and natural history of the honey bee
• Equipment needed and siting of an apiary
• Swarm control
• Pests and diseases
• Honey and other products of the hive
• The beekeeping year
• A practical session handling honey bees (weather permitting)

Follow on practical training sessions at our branch apiary in Hesketh Park
Experienced beekeepers will be on hand to answer any queries

The course comprises:
• One place on the 2-day course (including light lunch and refreshments) with the opportunity to inspect a hive
• Membership of the branch and Lancashire Beekeepers Association
• Membership of The British Beekeepers Association
• Monthly beekeeping magazine
• Full insurance related to beekeeping activities
• The use of beekeeping suits and veils
• Practical training sessions at our branch apiary in Hesketh Park
