Welcome to Southport in high summer. The temperature is 21° and the tide has just peaked at 3.12 but the beach is once again closed to vehicles due to a high tide. There are just a handful of people on the shore.Every day the beach looks more like a swamp.

The RNLI drive up and down looking rather forlorn. It really is a depressing sight.

Not long ago the beach was raked every morning and the sands were golden but those days have gone.

When will we see Councillor Barton down here grinning from ear to ear?

Something needs to be done fast to stop the rot.

I would not risk a boot never mind the car on that lot !!!!

Of course it's deserted, it's been raining off and on for most of the day. Who on earth is going to spend a day on the beach in that sort of weather? Of course we'll never see you taking photos on a sunny day when it's packed because that wouldn't fit in with your agenda of relentless negativity.

I didn't know you could build sandcastles out of mud!!! how can they advertise on the radio to come to southport and expect children to play on this part of the beach, it won't be long before McLevey gets his own way and it will be covered in sea grass from Marshside to Ainsdale!!

Call that a beach, Its a sxxt hole.

In St. Ives they rake & clean Porthminster beach every single day and funnily enough it's crammed with families on most days. We could learn a lot from Cornwall about how to treat a seaside resort.

It was just high tide. What is it supposed to look like?

Unfortunately Southport Beach seems to get all the mud, that is dredged from the Mersey, thrown up by the sea, onto it!

    Whinge moan groan.
Roving eye yet again being all negative. Pathetic.
I was on Ainsdale beach yesterday midday for 2 hours with my son and his friend. IT WAS HEAVING.! I know it's not southport beach, and yes it doesn't look great today, but come on, be positive about the resort and what we have going for us.
High tides cannot be combatted and the lay of the land doesn't lend itself to gently lapping waters and golden dry sand. It's so flat that the tide comes right it and doesn't drain away like you're idilic Hawaiian island.!
    Be positive ffs.!

Wouldn't be a problem if it was raked every night/morning like it used to be.
