Woodlands Animal Sanctuary believe the way to improve animal welfare and the future of the country’s wildlife is to provide education for the younger generation and to give them the opportunity to experience animals in a hands-on environment. This can be an effective form of educational enrichment for them.
Allowing them to empathise with a species can allow them to open their minds to how their decisions can affect others, which can have an impact on not only how our pets and wildlife are treated but also their behaviour within society. However, it is not only the younger generation who are benefitting from the experience of meeting and greeting some of the residents at Woodlands. The team often take animals to nursing and senior care homes, where they are greeted with as much enthusiasm from an older generation as from the younger ones!
From WI, to scouts, schools & church groups, Woodlands offer this education opportunity to any school or organisation. There are two kinds of outreach programmes you can choose from:
Sanctuary visit - Your school or group can visit the sanctuary and learn onsite about the different animals they rehabilitate.
School/external visit - They will visit you with 1, 2 or 3 species of animal with a programme tailored to your needs.
Alex, Woodlands experienced Animal Care Manager and Liz, trustee in charge of fundraising run this programme together and can tailor the experience you suit your needs.
Whether you would like to see a hedgehog close up in the comfort of your groups base, would like a visit from Beanie & Dolly, the charities infamous donkeys, or feel in the mood for the mischief the Pigmy goats Bert and Ernie bring to any occasion, Alex and Liz will inform and entertain you and your group in exchange for a donation to the charity.
With relevant activities for young people and an interactive experience for all, these sessions are a fun way to learn about animals, whilst helping a local charity who work tirelessly to support the animals in their area.
If you are interested in one of these packages please contact Woodlands either by phoning 01704 823293, or emailing: info@animalsanctuary.org.uk
