Southport Lib Dems have raised further concerns over the future of Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Trust.
Four top bosses at the Trust, including the chief executive Jonathan Parry, were suspended on full pay in August 2015 for unknown reasons after three separate whistleblowing accusations. One of those suspended has now been told that they may return to work whilst the three others will face disciplinary action. It is unclear why the investigation has taken 12 months to come to this view and looks set to drag on yet further.
Southport MP John Pugh says that somebody owes the town an apology over the debacle and the longer it continues, the more damaging it can be for the Trust as part of the bigger picture.
John said: “The medical staff and middle management are doing a great job in maintaining our services but across Merseyside there’s a wholesale review of hospital care that could lead to big changes in which hospital does what.
There is no one batting for Southport in this process.
My fear is that other hospitals will seek to cannibalise Southport’s services without anyone there to champion the hospital and the community.
We may see services re-allocated to other out-of-town providers with the usual smokescreen of arguments about clinical pressures disguising a naked land grab. I have written to health minister Jeremy Hunt and Simon Stevens, Chief Executive of the NHS pointing out that Southport, through no fault of its own, has no voice in this undemocratic review process.
Further lasting damage may be done because of the absence of committed leadership at the top at a critical time and if Southport is penalised because it has lost its voice. This is absolutely not the fault of staff or local people.
Someone owes us an apology.”

I'll say! Southport has been the victim of 'grabbing' for many years on Council Tax, Land, NHS Services & Budget and Local Authority jobs. How long have you been MP Mr Pugh? Coincidence perhaps?

What we need is a 'Top Boss' who is actually INTERESTED in keeping Southport Hospital going.
The present/recent past ones appear to be more interested in self aggrandisement than in running our hospital for OUR Town.

Reading this political football statement from our ineffective party makes me think that some of the words need removing to show how we could feel about the long standing party who are supposed to be "fighting for southport" which is either "calling" out here to people who may never read it:

Or writing a letter.
Come on Libs, you've had long enough to prove value stop jumping on the biggest bandwagons, which are no doubt massive issues but you're hardly making them better with your current approaches....the electorate expected more from you when they voted you in and pay you.

I'd settle for a chairman, CEO, and a board and senior officers that had served on the front line, and were not just bean counters. Ones who put staff and patients first, not themselves. Ones who, when you had a backlog in A&E would not be afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. Perhaps I should start writing fairy stories. Once upon a time...

Just two years ago John Pugh voted to support the Tory led coalition policies for regulated competition within the NHS. How times change! Some would even call that hypocritical.

why is it a big secret of the accusations.....just like sex offenders the accusations should be published so others can come forward and confirm the offences....why are the authorities protecting these people...if it was a nurse or a porter it would be published

I agree we need enough qualified doctors, and even more particularly - qualified and experienced nurses.
It's possible we have too many managers, some are overpaid, and some are certainly a waste of space, but the notion that NHS managers in general add little value is ridiculous, if you don't have managers - you end up with clinical staff using their valuable time on non-clinical duties, and often non-clinical duties that they're not very good at!
Who do you think organises staff rotas, contracts for cleaning services, buys in all the food, ensures theatres are stocked, recruits new nurses, organises planned and emergency building maintenance, plans future capacity and demand, runs procurement programmes, makes sure the back-up generators function, liaise with social services around intermediate care, care packages, district nurses etc, manages GP referrals and subsequent waiting lists, manage electronic systems that among other things forward discharge and/or onward referral letters, manages the mortuary, disposes of all kinds of waste, calculates the NHS financial flows, submits the accounts, maintains the grounds, manages the IT systems, the clinical coders, the movement of clinical records around they system, manages internal pharmacies, and loads loads more things.
Sometimes, the pen-pushing is needed.
