Calls for Fair Treatment for Public Sector Workers to Revive Town’s Economy
Sue McGuire has been chosen as Liberal Democrat candidate for Southport following the stepping down of her Liberal Democrat predecessor,John Pugh.
Sue was ‘born and bred’ in Southport. She and is married with two children -Lily and Sam. Together with husband Aidan she founded the IT Company Blue Fountain Systems whose client list has included household names like Toyota, Sony and Jaguar Land Rover. Aidan and Sue have brought up their family in Southport with many involvements in the local community.
She is currently leader of Sefton Council Lib Dem group and has been a councillor in Southport since 2006 and has held many regional posts for the party. Sue is a “hands on” community activist and is often pictured leading a group called Rubbish Friends who work tirelessly to clear up grot spots neglected by the council.
“There is no way that I would have stood down”, stated John Pugh “if I did not know there was a stellar candidate like Sue ready and prepared to stand. Southport needs its local champions.”
In her first comment as Parliamentary Candidate Sue said , “Southport needs a thriving economy but it also needs to be ready to protect its local services and that definitely includes -its hospital and schools.
A real crisis is looming but with public sector workers bearing the brunt through wage freezes and their standard of living dropping year by year no wonder our local shops aren’t full !
We have to stop this spiral of decline before the economy heads for real turmoil and we lose much of what we now take for granted. The fight is on “

Very strong local candidate and should win on local issues.
Avoid the national nonsense from the Donkey Farron and she will romp home unless the Conservatives suprise us.

I suppose they could have done worse.
Nevertheless, there were far more suitable candidates in the party, who would have brought more experience (via long- time Southport case work and in other areas) to the position.
