Ainsdale Sand Dunes Nature Reserve are saddened to say that an area of the reserve at #Ainsdale #NNR suffered damage from a fairly large fire last weekend, which was potentially started by a campfire.
A spokesperson said...
'Firefighters and Natural England staff worked hard to bring it under control and we have been monitoring the situation since. We are still dealing with areas that continue to smoulder and making them safe by digging out areas and covering with wet sand.
Dry weather and a dry covering of pine needles in the woodlands means it only takes one spark to start a fire, CAMPFIRES AND BARBECUES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED throughout the NNR.
Help us to protect the reserve, its visitors and the wildlife - if you see smoke, fire or people acting carelessly with fire please contact our office on 01704578774.
To raise awareness we would appreciate that you share this message. Thank you.
