The annual series of summer concerts held in Liverpool has had to be scaled back by the lack of artist availability and the current economic climate, Liverpool Summer Pops promoter Chas Cole of CMP who still lives in Southport has stated that "it's not a good risk" to put on as many shows this year.
The concerts which usually number around twenty annually have included many top worldwide acts over the years such as.....The Who, Tom Jones, Paul Simon, Paul Weller, Diana Ross, Simply Red, James, Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan & The Eagles.
The annual summer event began in its current form in 2001 and for several years performances were held in a big top circus style tent up on the Kings Dock up until the Echo Arena was being built, it then moved to the Trafalgar Dock (2005), then Aintree Racecourse (2007) before going to the new Arena (2008).
The shows this year will either go on at the Echo Arena, the Philharmonic Hall or the Empire Theatre depending on the size of the show and looking ahead to the next couple of years, Chas Cole has not ruled out a return of the much favoured big top tent if right venue can be found.
