New penalties have been introduced for speeding offences this week. Local Officers have today been out recording speeds on key roads.
The roads selected were based on requests from local residents for action on excess speed in their areas.
No tickets were issued today, with Officers preferring to give words of advice to drivers and make them aware of the new penalties.

Has anyone else spotted the new 50mph signs along the A565 between Riverside and Banks? They're currently painted out, but they're there!
I'm guessing the limit will drop from the current 70mph when the average speed cameras go in along that stretch, meaning the whole of the A565 from Tarleton lights to Water Lane at Banks will be 50mph.
Doesn't bother me, I only pootle along anyway (though I'm no saint of course!) but I suspect there'll be plenty of motorists flouting the limit!

If the speed signs are painted out and theres street lights on that stretch, which the is means it is now a 30 zone until otherwise stated

That's incorrect, there is a national speed limit sign after the Mere Brow roundabout heading South, which means that you can go from 50 to 70mph. However, average speed cameras will shortly be erected on the dual carriageway between the Banks and Mare Brow roundabouts. When introduced, the speed limit will be decreased to 50mph.
Despite all assurances from both the Police and LCC that this to reduce the risks of accidents, it is nothing less than a money making scheme.
It's ludicrous to think that a long straight dual dual carriageway is restricted to 50, and yet you can turn into one of the narrow side roads and still do 60mph.

Exactly, but the cash cows would make no money on them small side road as not a lot of people would get over 60 mph.
To put it into perspective, it would be far more dangerous to drive 60 mph on them side roads (As the law permits), as it would to drive say 60 mph on the duel carriageway.

Yes reality is beyond the hapless planners, but at least one person will be endulging his sexual fantasies of seeing a dual carriageway with a lower speed limit than those crappy lanes in the vicinity. Anyone heard the Asylum has reopened and being run by the inmates.

Typical knee jerk reactions with the added 'benefit' of making money..
There have been a lot of accidents on that stretch of road caused by half wits shooting out of side roads not seeing the 'give way' or pulling out in front of oncoming traffic..
So OBVIOUSLY (sarcasm) making everyone drive slower will stop idiots pulling out ..won't it?
In a similar vein to lowering speed limit through Ince Blundell woods because of a spate of accidents....which when analysed consisted mainly 2 drink drivers and half a dozen stolen vehicles being pursued IIRC....
Or lowering from 60 to 40 the limit on Primrose hill on the way to Ormskirk after the tragic death of a cyclist hit by an young uninsured/banned driver well over the 60 limit (again IIRC)...
A lower speed limit would, of course have prevented these!

The average speed cameras are going up between Banks and Mere brow. All the accidents happen 200 yards past Mere Brow rondabout, so making money can be the only reason.

Quite a simple solution and easy to abide by.
Certainly, but why the reduced limits anyway? as already stated just another cash cow, the majority of accidents on that stretch have been, surprise, surprise in the single carriageway, 50 mph section, mainly by drivers emerging from one side road in particular, possibly due to the single cariageway section, when if a driver pulls out of the side road, drivers on the main road have no-where to go, it's either manage to stop or hit the offending vehicle.

Incorrect.
The national speed limit on a dual-carriageway for non-LGV vehicles is 60mph - not 70mph. The national speed limit on a single carriageway is 50mph. There is no single speed for a national speed limit - they are different according to the road category.
Maybe this is why the limit is being reduced to 50 and average speed cameras are being installed - because people don't know the speed limit on the roads they use. This is entirely in keeping with the need to 'dumb down' everything to do with motoring - because the increasing majority of drivers are as thick as a brick & don't care for their own safety or that of any other road user. It's as if the word C O N S E Q U E N C E has never existed and has no meaning.

.
Erm no... On a dual carriageway, the limit for cars and bikes is 70mph, on a single carriageway it's 60mph. There are different limits (i.e. lower) for other vehicles and when towing a trailer or caravan

According to google maps, this section of road is 1.6 miles in length. Assuming you can do 70mph from roundabout to roundabout (which you can't), it'll take approximately 1.5 minutes. Reducing that to 50mph it'll take you approximately 2 minutes.
30 seconds is hardly going to impact on your life.! You've probably spent more time than that harping on here about how much it's gonna affect you.......
On the off chance you are involved in an accident, the reduced speed may we'll save your life.... just leave a minute earlier....!

I would suggest that go into any good stationers, and get yourself a copy of The Highway Code. You might just be surprised to learn a thing or two.
