Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M58.

The incident happened at around 9.30am on Thursday (January 12) between junctions 3 and 4. A BMW X5 was travelling eastbound when it lost control and collided with a Fiat Punto. The Punto left the carriageway and collided with two trees.

The driver of the Fiat Punto, a 34 year old woman, suffered serious injuries to her hips, arms and legs and was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital.

PS Adam Dawson of the Road Policing Unit said: β€œAn investigation is underway to establish how this collision occurred and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened to contact us.”
