Southport MP accused of "heartless hypocrisy" after voting animals can't feel pain or emotion.

The claim follows his vote against the sentient animals clause in the EU Withdrawal Bill.

EU law clearly states that animals are sentient beings that can feel pain and do have emotions but concern was raised that the Government was specifically choosing not to carry this over into UK law post-Brexit.

Government supporters insisted there is sufficient protection in the UK's 2006 Animal Welfare Act but this has been strongly challenged by animal rights campaigners including the RSPCA, which pointed out that animal sentience is not mentioned in the Act and that it mainly covers domestic animals with those in the wild and laboratories being expressly exempt.

Southport's Damien Moore was one of the MPs who voted to reject carrying sentience recognition over into UK law and helped the Government to a slim majority of just 18 in a move which has enraged animal rights campaigners.

Now his actions have also been strongly criticised locally as it's emerged that the MP did this just days after releasing a photo of himself with representatives from the animal charity Blue Cross stating:

"I find the reported abuse of animals in my constituency deeply concerning... I’m also very supportive of the Blue Cross and their aim to strengthen the penalties for those who abuse animals and will do what I can to see this become a reality.”

Constituents have since made comments on his social media page asking if so, why did the Damien Moore vote against animal sentience being included in the EU Withdrawal Bill?

Mhairi Doyle, Chair of Southport Labour Party, says the MPs actions are inexcusable:

"Here we have a man proclaiming he's concerned about animal abuse one minute and then denying they have feelings or emotions the next, simply because he thinks the first will get him votes and the second will get him on in the Tory party. It's completely heartless hypocrisy."

Neither is it the first example of such behaviour she claims:

"Just the day before his Blue Cross release he posted about being with the Royal British Legion, what he didn't say was that previously he'd also failed to turn up for the vote about raising Armed Forces pay. It seems our local MP makes a habit of publicly saying one thing and doing something quite different in the Commons."

Why didn't he use what little BRAIN he has and consult a Vet as to whether they think animals feel pain or have emotions if he was confused and unsure.

...then you obviously didn't read it... the fact that Mr Moore is saying one thing publically and then doing another in the HoP is quite revealing.

Quite possibly the ugliest person in UK politics - and I'm not talking about skin and bone here.

Because he's a back bench MP. He votes how he is told to vote by the party whips. Use of the brain is not required.

Aye but he could still abstain if he had any sort of backbone... the point is he can't be popping up to claim he's concerned by animal abuse one minute and then voting that animals can't feel pain the next... there's no good reason why the Tories do not want the animal sentience clause in the EU Withdrawal Bill... but there are plenty of bad ones!

Well done Mr Moore. You've just lost the support of virtually every animal loving constituent in Southport, and that's a lot of voters. Certainly enough to cost you this seat next time round.

Tories will try to water down any laws or regulations concerning abuse or ill treatment of animals, after all some of the bone brained, thick heads, believe or try to tell the rest of us, that foxes or deer enjoy the hunt, of course the pro fox hunting brigade will hate the concept of having to take animal welfare into consideration.

PS Just took a look at who actually voted against including this animal concern, surprise, surprise, 313 MPs believe that animals have no emotion and don't feel pain, they were 2 Independents, the DUP contingent, (repaying their handout) the rest were all bloody Tories, tells us all a lot, this mind after the very honourable???????????????????? Michael Gove had already promised that this specific part of EU law would most definitely be carried into UK law.
