Two cars were badly damaged after a Mondeo private hire taxi hit a Mitsubishi Lancer at a busy Southport junction this afternoon.
The Mondeo driver suffered a gashed leg with the driver of the Lancer attended to by a paramedic for over half an hour after the crash which happened at about 3.30 this afternoon at the junction of Mornington Road and Wright St.
A small number of Southport College students hung around to watch the drama unfold with a police Transit ensuring the skilled paramedic could work in safety.

Yet again 20 mph = one more accident, does anyone other than that Pnp thing agree the reduction was just a complete and utter waste of much needed funds. The next taxi seen abiding by the 20 mph will be the FIRST.

Total waste of taxpayers cash and totally unnecessary. Furthermore unenforceable.

Box ticking exercise, with the bill picked up by the taxpayer, exactly the same as the 50 mph limit on the entire stretch of the Tarleton bypass.

How is it a box ticking exercise? They introduced average speed cameras to enforce a 50 mph speed limit on a stretch of road notorious for accidents caused by excessive speeding. What’s up Silver plonker? Are you one of the many idiots who got caught, and ended up contributing to the massive cash revenue these speed cameras have generated. It’s simple, don’t speed and you won’t get the points and fine. And what’s a few extra minutes on your journey if it helps save lives?

Notorious for accidents at ONE crossover point, which I believe is going to be closed. Which it should have been years ago. Perhaps YOU are one of the idiots that have been done donkey plonker.

All these witnesses saying that excess speed was involved. Keyboard warriors. Looks to me like an element of confusion with the Mitsubishi turning right across the taxis path. Maybe, just maybe the 20mph limit saved both these drivers from more serious injuries. Don’t want a speeding ticket? Don’t speed.

The section of dual carriageway between Gravel Lane and the Mere Brow roundabout has had ONE fatality in past 15 years or so, and that was when a pedestrian, who was found to be drunk, attempted to cross the road outside the Riverside. There was never a suggestion that the vehicle in the incident was speeding at all. The legal limit back then was 70mph, but hey, don’t let the actual facts get in the way of your ridiculous biased rhetoric.
