I remember father and son coming on Southport Fellwalking Club outings.They lived opposite a friend of mine on Carnarvon Road, Birkdale.

George was a pal of mine at school in Sunny Road School at Churchtown in the 1940s, he always called me "yank" as I went off to sea when I left school and sailed with Cunard White Star for many years, often saw George on Lord Street and wondered whereever he went too as we must both be approaching our 80"s now.

Does anyone know what happened to Alan Ratcliffe

Sorry, I don't think I know the Alan Ratcliffe you mention, but I can recall George also being a car park attendant during the summer on a car park near the Pier, on the other side of Marine Parade from the Guilder Rose.

I knew him quite well at the time and he was always happy to chat about his golfing achievements, which were certainly exceptional.

Ahhhh its ok hes a friend of the family. Would like to get in touch with him
