Hope TDH doesn't mind me adding this on. Carved into the stone work J Rimmer's Machine Bakery from the building on the corner of Virginia st and Hampton rd.
Blanked out the windows as its someone's home now.

The search goes on
Can I just say how delighted I am with everyone's help and input.
This is absolutely fantastic and I am very grateful for any assistance.
Everyone is welcome to contribute and help.
A.L Guzzler is completely correct in spotting the mistake for Dokell Plumbers. Thanks for that.
In regards to Matti and Tissot information for WolseleyPlumb, I hope this link is helpful

Thank you to MG Man. I wish I'd had the forethought to take more pictures than I have done. It's very annoying when the opportunity disappears.
Thank you to Beldray. The picture of J.Rimmer's Machine Bakery is absolutely fantastic.
And thank you to Sir Galahad for the tip about 64 Duke Street.
That's very helpful.
Hopefully I'll post something soon.
Thanks again,
The Dark Horse

Bold street.I have googled Portland street and found it is a long way from Lord street
The photo may be from inside the shop, though not 100% sure.

Corner of Glebe Place & London St, (think its a building society) almost all covered up but there is evidence of a 'ghost sign' as they're known. I believe it to be:
Chantler Bros Wine & Spirit Merchants
Beer & Porter Bottlers
This was where my Gtx2 Grandad had a shop and I can make out from the letters that it maybe his sign.
Go take a look, Im OOT at present.

Thank you Bilko.
Atalia loves exploring Southport Regretably by google walking only today as I live in Bury(also formerly in Lancashire )
I can not see the remains of an an old sign perhaps you could give me some more building details
I am sure Doward Brothers was one of the roads off Lord street towards the sea front as I remember visiting a few times as a child.
Or is it that you think the photograph was taken in your GT gx2's shop?
The gentleman with glasses may be my grandmother's brother.

Glebe PLace is a tiny st off London St, the sign is virtually fully covered by marble/concrete cladding. It would probably only visible if you were stood by it, never tried looking at it via google earth.
100% Chantler Bros had 12 London St at one time. The sign has letters visible that would suggest it was their sign, I have made out B for Beer & C for Chantler on close inspection, of course i could be wrong but research has shown me it was this building

That shop on Upper Aughton Rd was Peggy's when I was a kid in early 70s. Think the official name on the sign may have been Conway's? Peggy's daughter and her family lived in the house next door til it burnt down in mid 70s.

Doward Bros had a place in West St next to Broadbents Warehouse (now scrapper Gerrards) which ran through to Hulme St. I think the Floodlight club was part of Doward Bros building.

Railway view only?
On the train coming back from Manchester I noticed a ghost sign on I think the back of a house in Lesley rd or it could have been Willow grove I was on the left hand side of the train. The sign seemed to be advertising a funeral directors.
Also recently uncovered on the corner of Mosley st and Upper Aughton rd is a sign for the picture palace.

My dad (born 1908) used to go to the pictures their when he was a youngster. He called it a flea pit and I think they used to sit on benches and had a piano playing accompanying the pictures.
