The YMCA was built next to the site of The Gables.

The Gables was close to Union Street and the then Bob Martin factory. I was a member of both the Southport Amateurs AFC and Embassy Clubs for a number of years - the Amateurs were based in the front ground floor section of the building and Annie Greenhalgh's Embassy Club occupied the rear section.
