And stockists NOT selling packets of 10 cigarettes anymore ? Minimum spend around £7.00 a packet.

And now most rolling tobacco is packed in 20gr,25gr,30gr,and 50gr packs, instead of smaller 5gr,12gr packets ? Costing a minimum of £10.00 a packet now to buy from stockists.

If the government wanted people to stop smoking,or attempt to cut down, then why do shops now sell tobacco in larger amounts in packages ?

This government has completly lost the plot, where is the sense in selling larger amounts ?

Don't imagine anyone believes cigarettes to be a healthy option, but if they are as dangerous as we are told, why not simply ban the things? but hold on just a moment who is going to make up the lost revenue?

Correct, I don't smoke but I always thought the NHS demonising smokers is two faced as they probably contribute more tax than most of us.

The most recent figures I've found 2012/13 give total tobacco revenue at £12.3billion, yet smokers and smoking related disease cost an estimated £2billion, plus of course smokers allegedly pop off earlier than others thereby saving on pension payments, perhaps we should subsidise smokers!!!!!!, as many smokers have switched to e-cigs, just waiting for new tax to appear on those products.

Why do most people who defend smokers assume that they cover their medical cost with the tax they pay. Firstly the estimated cost to the health service is between £3billion and £6billion and not £2billion. Secondly you wrongly assume that all the tax goes to the health service when in fact it goes into general revenue to cover other things such as education , defence and lots of other expenditure. Thirdly if smokers spent the money on healthier things they'd still pay tax on them ,although not as much. My calculation tells me that smokers cost the heath service a minimum of £1.5 billion and possibly as much as £3.75 billion. Interestingly I don't see anyone telling us about any benefits in smoking.
