    Pottery figure

    Hello John,
    How are you

I have a figure which looks a bit like Staffs.
It looks English, and is hand painted.
The white unpainted parts are covered in tiny black dots.
I would be interested in your opinion.

BTW I cannot load the picture as its too large...but picture on request
    cheers
    Dor

Hi......EDEMOES............The figure is of Red Riding hood

It is a very common figure, made in Staffordshire England in the late 1800. I have also seen the figure where the back is flat.
Some people refer to these as "FLAT BACKS".
It is worth between £50- £70

The figure was also copied in the 1920,and 30s.
It was copied by an Isle.Of.Man company in the 1950s
    These are worth about £20-£30

Copied also by a firm in Cheshire in the 1990, these where made in China.
    sold wholesale £3-£5 each

All the above where hollow with a solid base. I notice the one in your photograph has an open base. without holding the item it is hard to say but it is unlikely to be Staffordshire. It may even be a form of porcelain. The base looks quite like an Austrian bisque but impossible to tell with out looking at it in person.
You said it had black marks on it..........this is typical of the Chinese reproductions.
Drop it in to the shop and I will be able to view it and tell you much more.
    All the best
