Merseyrail is reminding its passengers that due to a planned 24-hour strike by Network Rail staff who are members of the RMT union, it will be running a limited train service on Wednesday 27 the July.

Merseyrail staff are not part of the industrial action, but it will involve Network Rail staff who operate the signalling systems and provide maintenance support.

    Hourly service

Because of this on Wednesday 27 July an hourly service will run calling at selected stations only, between 07:30 and 18:30, to help passengers make essential journeys.

    • Chester & Ellesmere Port line – There will be no trains from Chester or Ellesmere Port. Trains will start at Rock Ferry, only calling at Rock Ferry, Birkenhead Central, Hamilton Square, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.
    • New Brighton line – Trains will start at New Brighton and call at Wallasey Grove Road, Birkenhead North, Birkenhead Park, Hamilton Square, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.
    • West Kirby line – Trains will start at West Kirby and call at Meols, Moreton, Leasowe, Birkenhead North, Birkenhead Park, Hamilton Square, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.
    • Southport line – Trains will start at Southport and call at Formby, Blundellsands & Crosby, Waterloo, Moorfields and Liverpool Cental.
    • Ormskirk line – Trains will start at Ormskirk and call at Maghull, Aintree, Kirkdale, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.
    • Kirkby line – Trains will start at Kirkby and will call at Fazakerley, Rice Lane, Kirkdale, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.
    • Hunts Cross line – no services will run.

You can find details of the strike timetables here.

There will be no rail replacement buses on strike days and Merseyrail is advising passengers to make alternative travel arrangements if they cannot make their planned journey using the train service that will operate.

People with assisted travel bookings or who require assisted travel between strike days are being advised to:

Thursday 28th July – Early Morning Services

On Thursday 28 July, trains will be reintroduced from 07:00, when the 24-hour strike ends. There are no rail replacement bus services for the early morning disruption due to lack of availability. A normal, full train service will resume from 07.30 across the Merseyrail network.

Saturday 30 July – Normal Service

On Saturday 30 July, drivers from other train operating companies who are part of the ASLEF union will be striking.

Merseyrail drivers are not on strike and it will not affect train services. The normal regular timetable will run across the Merseyrail network this weekend.
