A section 60 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act authority has been put in place for Liverpool waterfront and city centre.
This follows a series of violent incidents involving weapons and disorder in the area over the past week, which has resulted in three youths suffering injuries. Some knives have been recovered and it was reported yesterday that youths had stolen knives from a shop in the city centre.
The Section 60 began at 3pm today and will cover the area bounded by the following: Princes Parade, Bath Street, New Quay, Chapel Street, Tithebarn Street, Great Crosshall Street, Byrom Street, Old Haymarket, Saint George's Place, Lime Street, Renshaw Street, Berry Street, Great George Street, Parliament street, Sefton Street, Mariners Wharf, Kings Parade, River Mersey to Princes Parade.

Chief Inspector Matthew Moscrop said: “This Section 60 order has been introduced to give officers more power to stop people in an effort to prevent any further violence and criminal behaviour. We welcome any information which could help us identify those responsible for this appalling behaviour.
“We have significantly increased the number of officers in the city and around the waterfront. They will not be troubling people who are in the city to enjoy the facilities it has to offer. They are there to target those involved in criminality and keep the city safe for those who just want to come and make the most of the city.
“We have already seen the benefits of extra officers in the area. Just after 2pm a man broke into the booth at the big wheel on King’s Dock. This caused distress for the member of staff who locked herself in another room and was able to call the police. With police on foot nearby, within seconds of officers being deployed the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault and using violence to secure entry.”
“If you have any information about any criminal activity that has been taking place, let us know, we will take positive action.”
