Get your dancing shoes on as budding DJ’s from Sefton showcased their newfound skills on the decks at an event yesterday Thursday 11 August, with DJ Lee Butler on hand to present them with their awards. (VIDEO BELOW)

The awards ceremony is the conclusion of an initiative, which is one of several neighbourhood activities running across Sefton and funded by Merseyside Police during the summer holidays to engage with young people living in the area and encourage them to take part in organised, responsible activities, which they can enjoy with their friends.

The event was held at MODE Training Ltd, Ground Floor, The Secret Warehouse, Syren Street, Liverpool L20 8HN on Thursday 11th August from 3-5pm.

The course, which has run for the last six weeks, forms part of Merseyside Police’s prevention policing approach. It’s aimed at using music as a vehicle to divert young people away from potentially coming in to harm’s way, or becoming involved in anti-social behaviour, crime or violence.

The students have been given practical lessons, as well as computer-based teaching where they have been shown how to create their own music.

Feedback from parents has been positive, with one parent delighted to say that this is the first thing her son has been engaged with and enjoyed for a long time.

Superintendent Martin Earl said:

“Supporting initiatives such as this one are so important as they allow us to engage with young people living in the area and show them that there many opportunities available to allow them to realise their potential.

“I hope this course has inspired them to embrace new challenges and gives them the confidence to continue to focus their energies on something that is positive and, more importantly, something that they enjoy.”
The project has been funded using money generated through Proceeds of Crime applications from County Lines investigations.
