Arrow Info required on a grandfather clock.

    Hello,

    GRANDFATHER CLOCK LINK

    ^^

Is the above item for sale worth £850, wich it is currently bid, and if worth more or less how much is it worth at auction / trade price / client price?

Just wondering as it looks a lovely grandfather clock which looks in good condition.

We are talking about the Oak Longcase clock circa 1790

    It looks worth the money.

    Things to think about

    Does it work
    Is it guaranteed
    He is a dealer
    Can you collect it
Is the workings a marriage to the case.

and the main point. If you buy it and collect it and you are not happy, can you change your mind.

If every thing is OK with the clock Trade would buy it at £650

    and retail it at £1200. In auction £450 t0 £550 + commission.

That is very interesting to know, and proves you can buy from auction and sell on ebay for a profit, thanks.

P.S - Sorry for the noobie questions John.

    Huh... ?

I was just clearly stating from the logic you said, it may be possible to make a profit buy buying from an Auction and selling on the Balumming Bay of all places. !

Just found it very funny as The Bay is meant to be cheap.

Of course you will not always make a profit but evidently it may be possible, I supose it depends on the day, I wasn't be complacent... At least I don't think so,

Obviously you may get a good day were people are buying to make a profit at trade prices, or two private indivuals could make the price go over estimate, I think that is right so far, but talk about quick profit, if you could (IF) buy a grandfather clock for £500 + 15% Commision = £575, then sell for £920 on the Bay that is a nice £345 profit, that is just an example, I not being complacent John, just stating a very ideal situation, but obviously it wouldn't always work coz hey everyone would be doing it.

Indeed, because they are buying at retail and selling at around trade price.

+ They are only buying smaller items, at retial price....

Also have you senn Paul Martin - Trust me I'm a Dealer, he always seem to make anice profit even out of £500, so he buys at trade and sells to shop for a bit moire than trade I believe or his clients which pay a premium for him doing the dirty work, so when you don't buy from fairs at retail and buy from trade, like he is, surely it is easier to make a profit, anyway I would love you to shoot me down John and say I am worng.

    Bargain Hunt

BARGAIN HUND IS A BIT BACKWARDS....WHY ON EARTH DO THEY BUY AT AN ANTIQUE FAIR OR ANTIQUE SHOP AND SELL AT AUCTION? WOULD THEY NOT STAND A BETTER CHANCE IF THEY BUY AT AUCTION AND SELL VIA A STALL AT AN ANTIQUES FAIR?, THAT WAY MORE PEOPLE WOULD COME AWAY WITH A PROFIT, AND IT WOULD SHOW HOW HARD THE GAME REALLY IS.....DONT KNOW WHETHER THAT WOULD MAKE GOOD TELEVISION.....

ADVANCED....I HAVE FOUND THAT HOUSE CLEARANCES ARE A GOOD WAY OF MAKING PROFIT.... BUYING SINGLE ITEMS OFF A FAMILY OR PERSON CAN STILL WORK BUT PEOPLE HAVE A NASTY HABIT OF THINKING THEIR ITEMS ARE WORTH MUCH MORE THAN THEY ARE..

HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE ,,,ITS VERY EARLY

"It is very early" - Tell me about it mate, I could not sleep... ! Haha.

But I agree they do a show were he buys from auction / trade price and trys to sell to shops and private clients and he normally makes a fair profit like 40 - 80%, have you seen it, it is called Paul Martn - Trust me I'm a Dealer.

On Bargain Hunt, they are like buying from BlockBuster, then trying to resell on Ebay something they have brought and make a profit, which is very hard to do as because as soon as you purchase something it normally becomes worth at least a little less, as a lot of people would rather buy from a shop / fair, instead of an auction, as a bit safer, plus they have to pay commision at auction, Paul Martin's show, and Put Your Money Were Your Mouth is had Tim Wannocott / David Harper and they brought from auction / trade price and sold to clients / at the fair / to shops, I believe this is the best way not buy from antiques fairs as they normally don't give you a special trade price but stick to retail i the hope that people are buying the products because they like them / they are a collector, other than trying to make a quick buck.

Hand / Fingers / Wrist aches now.

    Think

On a Saturday afternoon you buy £100 of sale items 50% off at Marks and Spencer.

On the Sunday you go to a car boot sale and try to sell them.

When you loose money don't blame your self..... blame the two locations you chose.

That is like the bargain hunt program.

In fact I banned it from my shop
