It looks like a late 20's early 30's drinks cabinet to me...but I could be wrong.

    Hi trouble.
    welcome to the forum.

the item is a side beside fall front drinks / display cabinet.

Typical of a late 1930s/ late 1940s cabinet. Items made in the 1950's tend to have a design in gold painted onto the glass. Fringe of being Art Deco. Normally made on a pine carcass, veneer with walnut or mahogany and built on little Queen Anne feet.

Not worth a lot today £30 - £50 but in the late 1990's £70- £100. Condition is so important... any damage, broken locks or a ring mark from a wet glass or a broken glass makes the item unsaleable and worthless. Cocktails sticks and original glasses will make the item more desirable and make it sell much quicker.

by the way the bowl looks like it is a serial bowl, Indian Tree pattern possibly made by Duchess

I was not expecting to see a very stubby ball and claw foot.

Do the legs change the date at all ?

    Hi John,

Here is a close up of one of the feet. Is it still a 1920's-1930's cabinet ?

    Thank you

John--could those ball and claw feet have been changed or added later--maybe cannibalized from something else? To me, they don't look as if they match the cabinet.

Hi Vivra Patricia, going by the last photograph I would agree with you
have been changed or added later--maybe cannibalized from something else,
But when you look at the earlier photograph you can see the item was made with the stubby ball and claw feet. Also I have seen and handled many cabinets of this model and the do have this peculiar looking ball and claw foot formation.

This model looks better with little Queen Anne feet.
On the other hand when the fall front is down which sometimes has a glass mirror for a drinks cabinet and leather if it is made for a desk.
Just think if heavy items are placed on the fall front and may be some one leans a little too hard the cabinet it may fall over. This may be the reason for the feet formation.

    good observation Vivra Patricia
