    Matania

I would like to buy an original Matania - Southport by night. I have seen one on the web at $16k. Any idea what is a reasonable price? Or is it just as much fun to have a gicle print?

Hi Vigrish...........are you referring to FORTUNINO MATANIA, RI (1881-1963)

    $16,000 sounds a lot

you are better buying an Isherwood. If you are looking for an investment of a Southport scene.

    matania

I have decided on Matania - it is just a question of price.
Any idea what would be reasonably for a Matania Southport?

I hadn't realised that Matania ended up doing illustrations for the early editions of "Look and Learn". There are some available on a new website that they're putting together for those of us with fond memories of this favourite children's magazine that began in the 1960s.

Fortunino Matania is, perhaps, best known for his WW1 illustrations:

Although I wouldn't swear to it I think that there were also other lesser known Matania's painting at about that time, some sort of relatives.

You would need to be sure that whatever you buy is by Fortunino Matania.

I have seen the Matania family burial site in a Catholic cemetery in north London.
