Ex more comment about quality is correct and it is a shame that it has to be sold.
"Shame you cannot keep it" I felt this was quite jokey, however at the same time patronizing. It may be it was not intended this way. Also the use of "cannot" rather than to the use of it would be a shame to sell it. I am struggling justifying what I mean to you Vanny. I know why I thought it was amusing at the time...

I think I have mis interpreted it. :P

Why do you need cash.. It is not like we are in a reccesion or anything? With any luck lets "HOPE" David Cameron and Nick Clegg's mighty alliance will pay dividends. Very execiting stuff, how it will entail is anybodys guess...
    Can't wait.....what price a new election within 6 months

Thank you all for the encouraging comments

Better a failed comedian than a successful arsehole.

No need to make it coarse Scutch. I just detect with you there is not a comical side about you and just something else where you get agitated over comments posted on a forum site, furthermore to that comments not even regarding you... Relax, your skin is way to thin. Remember stress kills.

I was just taking part in the good natured ribbing, I thought it was a funny reply to your post. So it appears I'm the failed comedian or just perhaps it's you with the "thin skin". Either way sorry to offend. PS. I still think it's funny, feel free to use it in the future.

Oh, that makes sense it was just "good natured ribbing". Thanks for the justification.

    Hi folks.
Sorry for the delay and thanks to everyone for your input on this thread. Here is a quick update:

I was recently advised by an Irish auction house that they would put a guide price of between €400- €600 on the piece. To be honest, I would be gutted to let it go for that so going to keep it for now.

Although I have not been able to find out everything I’d like to know about the picture,
I have really enjoyed doing the research into the background of it and similar pieces I have found on the internet.
I can understand how some people become so fascinated by all things antique.

I have, for instance, found out that the symbols shown in this and similar pieces represent the four provinces of Ireland. I can only guess at what the crown in the center of my picture is and I have only seen it on my picture. I thought maybe it could represent the British crown or possibly the former 5th province of "Mide" but really have no idea.

I do feel that some more could possibly be learned about who made the picture by taking a look at the old frame which is underneath the one seen in the photos here. Be assured, this is NOT something I would want to do without the help of a professional as I am not prepared to risk damaging it.

    Thanks again for input guys

    Mark.
