Do you recognise this man?
Officers investigating an assault on-board a train between Liverpool Central and James Street stations are releasing this image in connection.
At just before 3pm on 19 April, the first victim, a 71-year-old woman, was sat in an unoccupied seat when a man approached her and subjected her to a torrent of abuse.
As he continued to shout in her face the second victim, an 81-year-old man, stepped in and told him to leave the woman alone. The man responded by shouting “she was in my [expletive] seat” and punching the second victim in the eye.
Two members of rail staff removed the man from the service at James Street station.
Officers believe the man in the image may have information which could help their investigation.
If you recognise him, or have any information, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 277 of 20/04/22.
Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Typical cyclist "have bike I do what I want and go where I want" why doesn't the lazy sod ride his bike instead of taking it for a ride on the train.

Somewhere there are two Liverpool families with a 81 yr old grandad and a 71 yr old grandma and it won’t be long before they realise that this chap may take the same train home every day ( or one at a close time ), they have a picture of him ( wearing his helmet on a train ). He may well have rubbed up the wrong people the wrong way!, I know if it was my grandparents the next news story would be how this chap ended up in hospital with no teeth. ( and I am not even a tough guy ) .
Why didn’t the two members of staff detain him and call the transport police while they had hold of him .

What a complete A-hole!
Even transfers his 'entitled cyclist' attitude to a train FFS!

Not a flattering photo of this guy but have to say that it is often worth waiting to hear both sides of this kind of story.
Have helped older people with this kind of story before only to find out that they have 'somewhat' exaggerated story - once bitten twice shy.
If an 81yr old was punched why did two officers at the station simply let him go?
Doesn't add up.

He needs to be identified and questioned by the police. Plus any CCTV thats around the incident. Talking it away based on your one experience helps no one.

And jumping to conclusions without hearing both sides of the story after reading a confused report whilst sitting in your armchair is an intelligent response? I think not.
And if the incident was as clear cut (guy actually punching older bloke when unprovoked) as you seem to assume from your armchair, do you not think that Merseyrail will already be looking at CCTV?
Does the fact that the guy was stopped by Merseyrail employees at James St then cheerfully allowed to go home not make you wonder - slightly - whether he really did punch the older guy?
And does the fact that no hospital visit is mentioned not also make your brain pause for a moment to think?
I'd advise anyone in this country to pause for a moment before reading any news article - otherwise you spend your life bouncing up and down with indignation in your armchair, which is exactly what clickbait websited and newspapers want you to do. It sells.

Why do you think then that "Officers believe the man in the image may have information which could help their investigation." You would think he would come forward then to set the record straight if no grounds. Sounds like you are the once jumping to conclusions from whatever you are sat on. IE you have reached the conclusion that no one went to hospital - how do you know that?

You still haven't answered the question as to why - if an elderly man had been punched - the original officers spoke to the guy then let him go? Does that not seem a little ODD to you? I mean they were there at the original incident, would have seen any 'injuries' and then decided how to proceed.
As for "Officers believe..." that usually means that someone has made a complaint again and so - now the guy is no longer on the station - they have to been to be making an attempt to speak to him again. It does not mean they believe the story just that they have to be seen to be responding.
AGAIN I ask you - if the elderly guy was in agony having been punched, why would the original officers have let the guy (with the ugly mug - at least in this photo) go?
As for the hospital visit lack of mention you clearly haven't learned how the media works - the FIRST thing that is featured in any report are descriptions of injuries and visits to hospital since that is what SELLS papers.
Sorry - don't have time to explain to you how newspapers work - try observing it for yourself and learning. A good place to start would be to STOP believing everything you read in newspapers!

If this train was between Central and St James, it was going to the Wirral.
And it would be rather difficult to cycle directly from LIverpool to the Wirral.
Not to excuse behaving like that.
