Well, basically I am just trying to source some good 17th - 19th Century oil paintings, but at the moment the market seems to be quite poor and obtaining them at the right price is starting to become a lot more difficult.
Would you be able to keep an eye on for any oil paintings of this nature.
Ideally I am looking for subjects depicting portraits, landscapes, genre scene and animals.
If you could just have a look Vanny that would be great. Please consider this proposition, I will buy them from you allowing you profit, if I think you got them at less than I would be willing to pay!
So, if you do this, please could you take a photo of the painting you think that I would be interested in and upload it on here and you can tell me how much you want for it. Please do not buy anything first as I would strongly dislike it if I decided that I did not like / want it and for you to be lumbered with it.
I hope the above made sense, please ask if you would like me to reiterate it for you.
Hi,
as I have said many time before these threads are not to be used for advertising items for sale either by me or by the posters.

But I think it may be a good time to see if I can pass some of my skill and talent and experience (that is if I have any) on to the next generation.
Advanced has asked for some help.
So lets give him some.
Lets call it the SGB Advanced Antique Apprentice.
The A.A.A.
I will during the next week buy around the sale rooms of England and Wales half a dozen paintings and send them to the Poster Advanced and see what he can sell them for.
Only after he has sold them and been paid, will I divulge what I paid for them.
We will then split the profit 50%-50% less expenses.
It will be a bit of fun
In advance I have to say I have faith in Advanced that he will do well.
He can sell them privately, on eBay, in the auction room or to the trade.

Are you up for it Advanced
GOOD LUCK IN ADVANCE, ADVANCED
What a interesting proposition.
Well, you are being rather shift here Vanny in putting the whole onus on me and am I right in thinking you will purchase what you think I could make a profit it on?
It could go horribly wrong and you / me be left with a lot of cash out of pocket and a lot of old paintings. (The sceptical view) Contrary to that it could be a nice earner.
Also let us be more specific with the terms and conditions. I would like to know what exactly "expenses" mean.
Also Vanny I quote you saying that this forum is not used for buying or selling. When I remember you purchasing a religious antique oil painting from Briana, oh the contradiction is funny!
I could make huge losses if you pay to much Vanny.
Anyway, if you trust me I trust you! Remember the preferred subject matters please and lets do this!

I could make huge losses if you pay to much Vanny
.
Believe me Advance...If I pay too much it me NOT YOU who will make the big loss.
Remember it is me WHO HAS PUT MY MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS........ Do you agree Briana
Ooh, I'm looking forward to reading about the success or failure of this experiment! I hope one of you will post pictures of the pictures! This should be fun--what a neat challenge, Advanced.
go for it advanced ,,i think your best bet would be trade buyers and private selling ..
i picked up a nice gouache by an irish artist the other day, bought it for a pound at a boot sale, i didn't recognise the artist at first but i knew it was quality, the work was done by 'patric stevenson rua' (1909-1893) (royal ulster academy).
i looked him up when i got home and he was the president of the royal ulster academy in the sixtey's and his painting's sell for around the £500-£800 mark (in auction houses)
that's the real deal (my freinds call me david dickinson)
Vanny, what time period will you take to accquire you half a dozen pieces of art.
This should be a very enjoyable expreiment and if we can make a profit that would just be the icing on the cake.
Selling to the trade would be a new experience, that I have not yet ventured upon as the majority of my stock goes on eBay the remaining goes to local auction houses.
By the way congratulations on the result Briana, I am glad that worked out for you.
I too also had a result. I purchased a 19th Century oil painting which was a copy of the Haywain for £124 inclusive of p&p. I then contacted Cheffins and Chrisities and Cheffins have got it scheduled for their next sale estimated at £700 - £1000. Post after I consigned it Christies suggested a estimate of £1000 - £2000 subject to sight of the painting.
I have put it into Cheffins already and will see how it goes, as at the end of the day a profit is a profit.
Also Cheffins is closer so that I can view the sale.
i was looking at that option, what do you get for your £15 a month fee, i have seen the reductions you get on insertion fee's and final value fee's but the reductions are very minimal,,what are the advantages of a shop over normal listings?
this is a genuine question i didn't look to deeply into it.
