Table
Hi Vanny,
I'd be grateful if you could let me know if this little table is worth anything.
I found it at the tip!! But spent about £70 having it re-polished and I think it looks lovely.....hubby hates it! I'm not interested in selling it, but I'd like to be able to tell my other half that our £70 wasn't wasted!
Thanks. Para x

Happy new year Para.
Nice table. Made at the turn of the century circa 1900.
These tables were used as tea tables and also in the bay windows in houses that had no front gardens to put a large plant (aspidistra) pot on, so people in the street could not see through the window into the front parlour.
They where made in the millions. Made mostly in Mahogany. The table in your photo para looks like it is made from beech wood and stained to look mahogany. It is very shinney, we in the trade call this over restored.
The style of the table, some call it Victorian and others Art Nouveau.
Auction Value.....in a unrestored state £25-£35
Retail Value Restored ........£175 and £225
Go into a NEW furniture shop and see what you get for £225.
Your £70 even though a bit high for pollishing has turned out a good investment.
Good luck
John
