Libraries in Lancashire are celebrating the wonder of bedtime reading as part of the Book Trust's Pyjamarama campaign.

On Friday 1 May, families across the county can join in a festival of story-filled fun at home, to celebrate the bedtime story and reading together.

The idea behind the campaign is to dress in your pyjamas and read a book with your child to promote bedtime reading.

There will be many new activities available for children to take part in and ideas for things to do on the day.

Pyjamarama activities include fun for little ones, a puzzle zone, and creative activities.

To make things even more fun, other activities range from learning how to draw, rhymetime singalongs and storytime videos.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "Pyjamarama is a great campaign to promote the simple bedtime story.

“Reading with babies and young children not only introduces them to the joy of reading, it gives them a head-start in their language and literacy development and boosts their social and emotional wellbeing. It also gives parents an opportunity to connect and engage with their children at the end of the day.

"There's a great range of activities available from colouring and crafts to puzzles and drawing. Children will be able to watch videos of how to draw, take part in rhymetime singalongs, as well as listen to authors reading stories.

"The only requirement is that they’re done in pyjamas!"

Pyjamarama promotes the benefits of regularly sharing books and rhymes with children from the earliest age.
