Mindless vandals have wrecked a special memorial bench dedicated to a Melling mum who died in a tragic cycling accident in Aughton.
Mum of two Alison Doyle, 47, was killed after her bike hit a pothole on August 19, 2018 and caused her to veer into the path of a Ford Ka on Bold Lane.
Her family placed a memorial bench on Clieves Hill, Aughton in the summer – but vandals have broken one of the metal legs and smashed up a decorative memorial plant pot as well.
A plaque attached to the bench - that's now been removed for repairs - read “In loving memory of Alison Jane Doyle. Touched the hearts of those who knew her. Loved and remembered always.”
Her sister, Gillian Piercewright, said: “Clieves Hill was a special place for Alison. She would often go there not only to enjoy the beautiful views but also as a calming and comforting place which helped when she was going through breast cancer treatment.
“This seemed the perfect place for her bench to go and we would like others to enjoy the same views that Alison often did.
“We wanted to share the devastating news that this has been very badly vandalised.”
