Report: Brian Brighouse
Despite losing by the odd game against The Bridge, Bar 22 have an 8-point lead at the top of the Ormskirk & Division Pool League. They have 116 points and need just 9 points from their remaining two fixtures to claim the title for the first time.
The Bridge now have 108 points.Stanley Club remain in third position after coming away from their trip to La Cantina A with maximum points, they now have 107 points a great achievement in their first season in the league. The Queen Inn remain in 4th place but their 4 (5) – 3 victory against the Farmers means they are now 4 points outside a trophy position.22 Club appeared to be a fight for a trophy position a couple of weeks ago but they have drifted a little recently, mainly due to the emphatic wins of their closest challengers. This week they had a strong win themselves, they came away from Shaw Hall with a 5 (6) -2 victory. The Railway had a good win this week, they went along the long mile and came away with a 6 (7) – 1 victory after their clash against Bridge Dogs.In the final match neither team could field a full team but the Queen’s Head recorded a 4 (5) – 2 victory over La Cantina B. The final singles game was void as neither team had a player available. This was the ‘Head’s’ second victory of the season. The league has an annual player of the year award, to be able to collect the award a player must have played singles in 66% of the matches available. With 20 games played so far a player must have played in at least 13 matches. This week we have a new leader in the race for the accolade, Ian MacGregor has won 12 (92.3%) of the 13 singles matches he has played and he is now in pole position to claim the trophy.
There are no league matches for a couple of weeks now as we concentrate on the next round of the pairs competition (w/c 15/04/19) and the singles competition (w/c 22/04/19).
