Latest news from the borough council:
'We are continuing to support the local economy and help protect local jobs throughout the pandemic and a key part of our support to businesses has been the assistance given to our commercial tenants.
We were able to provide a three month payment holiday on the rent for our commercial tenants and allocated grants and business rates relief to those that have been eligible.
The Estates and Economic Regeneration teams have also provided help and advice to businesses based in our commercial properties.
As a result the maximum number of business tenants have been able to continue to operate despite the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic. This has helped to save jobs and also almost all of our commercial properties remain occupied. With unprecedented demand for industrial space all of the Council's properties are now let.
BDS Training is one of our commercial tenants, and Managing Director Toni Rowlands said: "The Council has been great with me and staff members have always been extremely helpful when I have contacted them. We had three months where we could defer our rent and also received a grant through the Council. This support has really helped to keep us going."
Councillor Ian Moran, West Lancashire Borough Council leader, said: "We want West Lancashire to be the place of choice for businesses to be located. The support we have given our own commercial tenants shows our commitment to that goal as well as boosting the local economy and protecting local jobs."
As the pandemic continues we are here to support all businesses to recover and thrive. Find out more at www.westlancs.gov.uk/business.'
*One thing the council is being very coy about is how much it's costing to 'run' Wheatsheaf Walks which it bought four years ago at a cost of £2.88 millions. Car parking revenue was supposed to subsidise the venture; there are still a number of empty units with the new Salt & Rock shop only moving in for a temporary lease after WLBC made the owners 'an offer they couldn't refuse'...
