Big hearted pupils at a village school have reached out to members of the community who they have seen recently because of the pandemic.
Bickerstaffe CE School's always been at the centre of its community, priding itself itself on the well-established links nurtured and developed over some 175 years.
Before Covid hit, locals were regular visitors, coming in to share their favourite story, discuss their youth during World War II or pass on their impressive knitting skills.
But this all changed last March, with growing friendships cut short...
Recently, Year 5 pupils asked about reaching out to villagers to let them know that they're looking forward to seeing them again; each class made personalised cards and a small group of pupils and staff visited them with a yellow rose and a huge smile, one saying: "Seeing the children once again has brightened my day.”
And the children were especially thrilled when they were rewarded with ice creams.
Head Kirstin O’Kane said: “I’ve been very touched by the thoughtfulness of our pupils.
"It's been an extremely hard year for everyone, but they continue to be kind, compassionate citizens determined to nurture friendships.
“We have truly missed our local community and can’t wait until we can welcome them back into school in the near future!”
