That's what you call a high flying birthday celebration!
Lathom's Dennis Adelsburg took to the skies for his 90th after his children Karen, Graham, Chris and Gill bought him a once in a lifetime flight in a Spitfire.
Gill, her partner Billy and sister Karen accompanied Dennis of Blaguegate Lane to Biggin Hill, Kent this weekend for the flight, captured in these exclusive QLocal photos.
Said Gill: "On Sunday, between thunderstorms, he got a slot to fly. Karen, Billy and I flew alongside him which was a truly amazing!"
Interviewed by QLocal's Roger Blaxall this afternoon. Dennis, now 91, said it was a 'brilliant experience'.
"I loved it!" he said.
He served eight years in the RAF, three in Gibraltar where he repaired his one and only Spitfire in the early 50's; after touching down, he heard Biggin Hill was buying a Hurricane for its fleet.
"I'm already saving up to have a go!" he laughed.
Dennis has just got a new mobile which he's struggling to set up, joking: "If I can fly a Spitfire I'm determined to master my new phone!"
