The County Council really did have a rubbish excuse for closing Ormskirk's Blackacre Lane - over 30 of them in fact...

Initially closed since the Boxing Day floods - a BMW X5 was stranded for a fortnight in water over two foot deep - further investigations discovered that the adjacent watercourse was so choked with rubbish it was akin to a stagnant 'pond'.

And 'pond life' was to blame for the problem, with an LCC team removing over 30 tonnes of assorted rubbish dumped there (pictured above) - click here for the original story from January:http://ormskirk.qlocal.co.uk/ormskir...!-54761268.htm

Once that was cleared, it set to work installing four new roadside drains and digging out the watercourse that's now flowing freely although there's evidence some bone idle folk have been dumping rubbish there again...

The County Council deserve a pat on the back for its hard work which was prioritised as the focus remains on dealing with local flood prevention; one permanent solution might be to culvert the whole stretch - and install CCTV to monitor dumping.

A spokesman for the County Council told QLocal: "Blackacre Lane re opened on Friday.

"A problem with flooding had occurred due to tonnes of waste being fly tipped into a ditch, which is on private land next to the road, and affecting the drainage system.

"We've had to remove this waste, which amounted to over 30 tonnes, and carry out repairs to the drains, to prevent the road becoming flooded in the future."
