The new President of The Rotary Club of Ormskirk Clocktower took over the role on 1st July this year - right in the middle of the pandemic!
James Parsons from Aughton - together with his team - had made lots plans for the Club with social events and fundraisers on the run up to taking over ... but everything had to be reviewed and adapted in light of Covid 19.
And now, looking back on what has been achieved by the Club since the start of the Rotary year he can’t believe how much has been achieved and how the Club's triumphed over adversity...
Monthly meetings which are usually held at Briars Hall in Lathom had to stop but members have kept up meeting up together via Zoom. And it's held a car treasure hunt and also produced a ‘Clockdown ‘recipe book raising much needed money for local good causes!
Proceeds - some £2350.40p - have been donated so far this year to Willow Brook Hospice, The Molly and Paul Foundation, Barnardo’s Young Carers project, Queencourt hospice, The Samaritans, The Beirut Disaster, Gorse Hill Nature Reserve, ‘Generation Gap’ (a team of trans-Atlantic rowers raising funds for various charities).
And members have also taken part in socially distanced fun events such as bike rides, walks and visits to Martin Mere and Gorse Hill Nature Reserve (https://nwecotrust.org.uk/)
Currently they're planning for World Polio day on 24th October with their crocus bulb planting project to raise funds for the International project to eradicate polio and celebrate the work of Rotary internationally!
James told QLocal this afternoon: "I am very proud of what we have done so far this year!
"It just shows you that where there’s a will there’s a way, and our Club can go from strength to strength despite all the things that have been thrown at us!"
