Finally, some positive news on making Long Lane, Aughton safer for drivers and pedestrians!

A site meeting took place on Monday outside the Dog & Gun to look at, first hand, the ongoing serious speeding issues down Long Lane, Aughton especially from the Bickerstaffe direction.

Present were Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner, Andy Pratt, Colin Draper (Long Lane resident and member of Aughton Residents Group), Inspector John Bent and PCSO Steph Morley (Lancashire Constabulary) and Graham Jones (Aughton Parish Council); Colin Atkinson (Chairman of ARG) joined later.

Said Graham Jones: "A full range of options and initiatives was discussed, and it was a most positive and valuable session.

"Thanks to all concerned for giving up their time.

"A further update will be provided at July's meeting PC meeting," he concluded.

Commented Andy Pratt MBE: "I was pleased to attend with Insp. John Bent.

"We discussed the speeding issues on Long Lane and noted the excellent Speed Indicator signs on both signs of the road.

"As well as giving the speed of oncoming traffic and warning motorists to slow down where necessary, SPID's can also track the volume and speed of all vehicles through an integrated device.

"We advised that the Parish Council download this data as it will be essential in any assessment of need for this road."

Well done Colin Draper and the Long Lane residents. With two long term Tory Aughton Park councillors, Halsall residents, the subject of speeding has been ignored. Now, a new Labour councillor can surely hold those responsible to account? If the speed of all vehicles is tracked then surely prosecutions should follow?
